‘Geisha’ – photo by the guys at Toysrevil.net
Honestly, I only watched Blade Runner about a week before the exhibition. Thought the whole plot was pretty average but I loved the imagination put into the sets. I have always been a sucker for sci-fi movies, just to see the sets and prop designs. Pretty impressive for a movie done in the 1980’s. Other than that, the movie was unintentionally funny. Found myself laughing at scenes which weren’t supposed to be. Maybe I was just over analysing everything in the pursuit of ideas for the exhibition.
So I took a day or two away from it after watching the show and the image which stuck with me the most was the giant ad of the geisha eating some… candy? Loved how it mixed in a futuristic setting with the traditional style of Japanese product ads. The whole film was littered with a mish mash of old and new. Like the flying cars with computer displays/interfaces the equivalent of ‘Pong’ (Then again, the movie was done in the 1980’s. Everything looked like Pong).
I started wondering what the Geisha ad look like on a print ad. Mashed the traditional style with subtle futurist hints. Wanted the Geisha in my ‘ad’ to me an android. Hence the eyes. Digital print it on artist canvas, A0 size
The piece is still up for sale at S$450
Check out the clip on the exhibition.
Props to Steve for organising this. Looking forward to the next

Quick little flyer done for the store to announce our pre renovation sale this weekend. Last chance to see the old decor!
Came across this clip while surfing Scott Hansen’s blog. It’s worthy of a repost on my part. Although he is talking about video reproduction, anyone in the creative field should watch it. The first 2 mins really left an impact on me.
Been so busy with the label lately, I’ve haven’t had the time to do any personal works. We recently just launched our lookbook for sifr.
